Greetings from the deck of my 1933 Gaff Cutter

Hi Cruisers,

I have been a list lurker for a while but thought I should get involved in the conversation finally. My boat is a 40ft (on deck) gaff cutter. She was built on Thursday Island in the Torres Strait and started life as a pearling lugger.

I have owned her for three years of which the first year was spent in a major refit of systems. More to go of course as is always the case.

The topics here are always valuable to me as a relative new addition to the cruising community. I have recently finished an RYA Yachtmaster qualification to get some knowledge and will gradually build my cruising experience along the East coast of Australia before heading off on longer trips.

Looking forward to getting to know you.

Welcome. There’s a long tradition of using working craft as long distance cruisers. I have bookshelves full of the exploits of the famous yachtsmen of my boyhood. It’s good to hear it is still being done today. Best of luck.
