Greetings from landlocked Tennessee.

My name is Bob and I haven't sailed a boat, yet. I am looking forward to moving to Florida in 2016 when I finish school and would like to learn sailing in the gulf and then spend sometime crossing the Atlantic and visiting Croatia.

Sounds like a great plan! The west coast of Florida is a wonderful place to learn sailing. We are in a sailing club, Clearwater Community Sailing Center, and LOVE it.

Why wait? Learn now! I'm sure there's got to be a lake, sailing club, someone with a dinghy willing to teach or lend. Or for $200-500 look on craigslist for an old 8-14ft sailing dinghy. A sunfish or similar are great boats to learn on. Cheap and easy to own. Better to learn on something small where mistakes are cheap. The basics of sailing don't change and it's much easier to learn on a dinghy. Good luck!

Re: Greetings from landlocked Tennessee.

Ok so I love craigslist shopping here's what I found in the Tri Cities area
Mods, I don't own any of these boats just trying to help a fellow potential sailor our, hope I'm not doing anything wrong.

Sail Boat 14ft $400 looks in nice shape, no trailer.

Sail Boat / Row Boat great dinghy 8ft $400. On second thought don't buy that I want it!

^^Sunfish Sailing Dinghy^^ here's a place to rent a sunfish for $90

1985 AMF Sunfish Sailboat supposedly in nice shape $800 with a trailer!

Rumba Sail boat a rumba! I've never heard of them but I'm sure it'd be fun if it comes with all the bits for only $250!

Sail Boat looks a little rough but for $200 it looks like it'd float and sail.

Anyways that's my take on the situation get out there now! Have fun, learn get wet in the summer, find girls that enjoy it with you!

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Take some basic sailing lessons to get yourself started on the right track. It's a sure fire way of knowing if you like sailing.
