Talking Greetings from Cordova, Alaska!

Hello to all of you! My husband and I live in Cordova Alaska and work as Physician Assistants on the North Slope. We bought our first boat, a 28' Harborcraft Kingfisher Pilothouse 3 years ago. We have fallen in love completely with cruising, fishing, living and exploring our front yard, Prince William Sound. We made the decision a couple of months ago to sell our mostly unoccupied home here, and buy a trawler large enough for us to live on. The house goes on the market this week. We're getting rid of our "junk/stuff", giving things away, and having yard sales.... and of course, looking for our next boat. We will make our first trip to the Seattle area to meet with a couple of brokers, establish a rapport with at least one of them, and find our live aboard.

It's all so exciting. Our children are out on their own, and have been incredibly supportive of this turn of events. It just feels so right! We just joined this forum to learn more about living aboard, boat maintenance, brokers, harbors, insurance, etc. At this point we're looking for advice on how to find the "right" broker. And we're looking forward to participating in the forums to the extent that our experience allows! We do know a thing or two about wilderness medicine and would be happy to lend advice on what to have on the boat, and what's a waste of space!

Beautiful town and spectacular place to cruise. Am somewhat envious. Good luck with acquiring your new liveaboard.

Welcome to the forum, I can tell you the Dock Street Brokers are okay, they operate out of Seattle. There is also Ak. Boats & Permits out of Homer, AK, they are stand up honest folks. I have done business with both of these brokers at different times and have had good experiences, with both.
Were you thinking of sailing or power or both together?

Wow, we put the house on the market today, rented a storage unit, and started sorting through our "stuff". We're officially "out" on our liveaboard plans. We have our first trip to Seattle to shop for our next home. Can't wait. Butterflies galore, but we're talking them away. Thanks so much for the good thoughts.... and for your ideas! Peace...
