Greetings from Brisbane

Greetings All,
I'm over 60 & just bought my 1st yacht - Roberts 36 steel ketch. Looking forward to sailing the Broadwater, Moreton Bay & close coastal waters off Brisbane, Australia. As I don't have much sailing experience I am looking forward to advice from these forums & possibly meeting an experienced sailor who wishes to join me & show me the ropes. Moored at Horizon Shores marina.
Wishing all good health & happiness,
Stratty

Re: Greetings from Brisbane

Friday was an excellent day to travel. No swell on the Bay - the Gods were smiling! Pity wind on bow all the way & no time to try sails. Nasty southerly blow came up south of Peel Is but died down upon anchoring near Jumpinpin. 8 hrs non stop motoring - very smooth & stable. Thanks for your good service. Pity the hull needs sand blasting - $3300 before prime & antifoul - ouch! You are always welcome aboard should you wish a day or 2 sailing.
On the hard for about 10 days from Tuesday.
wishing good health to you & your loved ones,

Re: Greetings from Brisbane

Stratty I surveyed a 40' steel power boat at Horizon Shores last week. They had all their paint blistering off as well below the waterline. The extra surface area is costing them another $1000 on top of your sand blasting price. One things for sure your hull interior steel is not going to rust any time soon. There apeared to be plenty of paint everywhere.

Cheers

Re: Greetings from Brisbane

Yes, I must say the bilges were the cleanest I've ever seen on any boat & no diesel odour! I am pleased with the purchase, the owner was very friendly & helpful. Although the rigging survey was a waste of time for insurance purposes it does give me peace of mind that the rigging is in good cond & safe. Rigging over 11 yrs old no longer insurable - annual survey required after 7 yrs old.
stay safe
