Hello wonderful sailing community.
While living in
Germany, I originally was not interested in sailing at all. I went through the long and difficult procedure to get licensed for
motor boats inland as well as on the ocean,
learning paper
navigation, deviation tables,
radio...
While out of the
boat later, I could not get over how beautiful the sailboats glided or sped past on the Wannsee in Berlin. How the
wind constantly changed and the sailors had to adapt quickly. That is when I caught the bug.
After more weeks of schooling and
learning I had my licence to sail in
Germany as well. I took 6 months off and just sailed, it was wonderful. The
school even paid me to take students out, I was a sailing instructor! Kind of.
Now I have moved to
Miami, sailing is really far away. In order to join a club here I have to go through all of the clases again, although they seem to be a LOT easier then what is required in Germany, but also very expensive.
I will find a way to get back out on the
water. I look forward to meeting some of you maybe then out there as well! Until then, I really enjoy reading through this excellent
work all of you have put together in this forum.
Thank you and "allzeit gute Fahrt immer eine handbreit Wasser unterm Kiel!"
William
