Greetings and Salutations

We've bought the boat, we've read the books and mags, we're ready. We have a 40' Jeanneau DS that has proved to be the idle for us, especially from a live aboard standpoint. We are in the process of outfitting "Boto" for an extended tour of the Caribbean, South America and beyond.

As we start adding to the never ending list, one of the items we are looking for is charts and best anchorages. Any and all charts from the Florida Keys to Venezula and all points in between.

We will be leaving from the Houston area inApril of '09 heading east to Fla., then south. If anyone has any thoughts, ideas, suggestions (I understand that asking all of the above from the sailing community is in short, redundent) please let us know, we welcome all.

That is about it for now, talk with all'yall soon.

Only one suggestion - Go sooner!

Congratulations on the boat, good luck on the preparations!

Aloha Boto,
Welcome aboard!! Good to have you here. You've got the boat and plenty of time to plan. As Dan says, if you can sneak away sooner, just do it.
Kind Regards,
JohnL

Do you know of a good, relatively "hurricane safe" marina in Houston that has yard services?

Lydia,

Watergate is a good marina, there is some issue with getting in and out during low tides, however the marina itself is fairly well protected. During any storm surges the lake (Clearlake) has been known to empty somewhat and leave boats on the bottom, but as far as I know thats the worst of it. They do have floating docks.

They do not have a yard themselves, but South Texas Yact Services is right next door, so getting in and out of their yard is very simple. There are a few other yards around the Clearlake and Galveston area as well.

Hope that helps.

Thank you, I will check it out. I guess the best solution is to just keep cruising around the weather when possible.
