Greetings

I'm new to the site and Sailing, I'm a retired US Navy veteran, yes Navy and new to sailing wow, anyhow during my 20 year career I was a dirt sailor (Seabee) convoys, helicopter's and and airplanes was my means of travel. I've learned a little in a Hobie Cat sailboat in Diego Garcia and I've helmed my uncles various sailboats but that about it. So I have decided I'd like to learn to sail, I'm currently taking ASA Intro to Sailing and will follow with further ASA course work. My end goal would be to own a 35' Boat and know how to sail it properly and safely.

Re: Greetings

Welcome aboard,

I’m a former air wing Marine, Cherry Point NC. When Me and my wife decided sailing was for us we to took the ASA 101 class, purchased a 24 foot boat, sailed it quite a bit, lots of reading, and learning, sold it, purchased our current sailboat in 2015, did refit work in the fall thru spring, sailing during the summertime, in 2018 dropped the dock lines and have been full time cruising since then, currently on the hook at Cambridge Cay in the Bahamas, this will be our fourth roundtrip here from Groton Ct, to the Bahamas. Imo, you are going about it correctly, as you know there is nothing like first hand knowledge, so as you are able, get yourself a boat and sail it as much as you can, as the saying goes, “ there is nothing so worth while as messy around on boats”

Fair winds,

Re: Greetings

Welcome!
The crew of Pegu Club headed out at about the same time as I did. Last time I saw these fine people was Rock Sound, Eleuthera. Sure hope we cross paths again.
I sold my condo, went to the bank to deposit the check. Drove to Rockland, Maine and moved aboard. Been sailing ever since.

Re: Greetings

Welcome to CruisersForum!

I would suggest updating your profile with your your boat make & model or “Looking” in the "Boat" category. This info shows up under your UserName in every post in the web view. Many questions are boat and/or location dependent and having these tidbits under your UserName saves answering those questions repeatedly. If you need help setting up your profile then click on this link: https://www.cruisersforum.com/forums...ml#post3308797

I would happily help more if the link above is not enough.
