Greeting from Vancouver

Hi All - I've already posted this in another forum, but wanted to say 'hi' here as well

I'm a beginner and interested in learning how to sail with the objective to eventually get my own boat (probably a 20-something foot cruiser) for day sailing, possibly more in the further future.

I live in Vancouver, Canada and I'm currently researching beginner skipper courses in the Vancouver area.

I would love to hear anyone's experience or suggestions on schools/courses/requirements etc. I'm not new to boating in general. I took some sailing lessons when I was a kid and my family had a cottage with a power boat and a small dinghy sailboat. I love being on the water, so I know this isn't something I won't enjoy!

Looking forward to hearing from you

Cheers!

Re: Greeting from Vancouver

Probably dating myself but I taught sailing for Les Alfred's Jib Set school of sailing quite a few years ago. Les is long since dead but I believe the school lives on. We had a great cadre of experienced instructors hired for their knowledge and easy ways.
We had a fleet of Cal 20's out of both Vancouver and Victoria.
There are also several sailing schools that run out of the lower mainland that offer overnight passages in the Straits of Juan de Fuca to prepare folks for overnight passages, navigation, safety during night sailing, watch standing and other issues that come up when not sailing on bright, sunny, windy days.
Hope this helps, cheers, Phil
