Greeting from sailing vessel Carina

Hello,

Our names are sarah and jim, and we have a beautiful 30 foot Lyle Hess Cutter named Carina that jim built a few years ago. We are currently cruising the caribean with the intention of heading to the south pacific next spring.

We are wondering if anyone has any info on transiting the canal particuloar to a little boat with no engine. Or, does anyone know about trailering boats or putting them on large ships to cross? We are supposed to be buying an outboard soon, but we are quite content with the status quo. So we are open to suggestions and can also be reached at sarhigdon@aol.com.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Sarah and Jim

Aloha Sarah and Jim,
Welcome aboard!! Good to have you here. Lyle Hess had some great designs and I'll bet Carina is a beaut.
The last I heard that any boat doing the canal needed to be able to make 5 or 6 knots under power. This was a lot of years ago that I heard so maybe you'll get an update from someone who has done it in the near past.
Kind Regards,
JohnL

I think they strap you to a tug.
Perhaps you could email this agency and ask them: Y&J Yachts and Ships Panama Agency - Yacht Agent - Ship Agent - Panama Canal Transit - Supplies

Have fun!
