Got the "Fever"

Greetings! I appreciated the immediate response I received upon registering as a new user.

My name is Peteetah, and I live in northern Wisconsin, 40 minutes away from the Green Bay, Lake Michigan.

In August, I journeyed with my wife to the Apostle Islands for our anniversary. During our trip, I arranged for a sail boat ride with an old friend of mine, whom I remembered used to have a boat. As luck would have it Captain Tod, and another friend of mine, Captain Dan, had a charter service! My wife and I had a 34' sail boat with Cap'n Tod all to ourselves, with great wind and a slight chop...Cap'n let me steer with the wheel, and suddenly I turned into this ...."person" - Master and Commander, Pirate, and Discoverer, all in one!!

I was consumed. I later learned I had the "Fever".

I spent weeks on the internet looking at sailboats, thinking about sailing, and found out that my son also has had the "Fever", sailing Catamarans in Madison lakes.

Next thing I know, I have convinced my wife to spend some of my retirement $ on a "cheap" sail boat.

I started looking at Marinas, Yacht Clubs, boat dealers. My thought process raced from trailer sailers to the biggest thing I could buy for the money, regardless of , well, anything.

Long story short, with the patience of Cap'n Tod,(oh yeah, I was calling him every day, "bugging" him with questions) I purchased a 1972 Pearson CB Yawl, upgraded with a 1981 Universal Diesel.

Now I really need help, and feel this is THE place.

Looking forward to the time I can give back to other new users!

Re: Got the "Fever"

Welcome Peteetah. Hope you like your Pearson as much as I like mine. You have come to the right place to ask questions. The only problem, you might get more answers than you know what to do with.

I do understand about the fever. Similar thing happened to me and I was never the same.

Re: Got the "Fever"

Many thanks for the greetings! I will, (and have since August) search the forums for answers to my questions. I will also be checking out Classifieds, as we will have to replace and supplement much.

I do want to take the boat from the Green Bay to Fort Walton Beach, Florida, for winters. I know,... sweet water to salt, but I also want to cruise to the Bahamas at least once in my life. Been there by cruise ship, but I want the freedom to cruise those islands.

Also, I should include in my introduction that my son is being ASA certified out of Pensacola for Coastal Cruising. He has sailing experience, but needs the formal training, so he can help "Dad".
