Just wanted to say hello. Have many cruising websites bookmarked on my computer since taking up sailing about 4 years ago.
Am a couple of years from early retirement and would love to spend a few years cruising the Mediterranean - at the moment on others' boats.
I spent about 10 weeks doing just that a couple of years ago and knew from that moment that the cruising lifestyle was for me. All I need know is the courage to break the ties (and the right boat of course).
Until then I will continue to surf the net and live my life vicariouslt through the adventures of others.

That first sail is about like gold fever, once you've been out there it's hard to break away.

Breaking the ties IS the hardest part. For some it's trying to get the first mate to break the ties. But either way dreams are what life is made of. Full filling that dream is success.

As for the boat, here's an artical that you'll find interesting that will help you make that decission. As well there is a weath of info here in the archives. And if you can't find it just ask. Opinions here are like grass..................._/)

Of course there are other styles of boat's other than the one's being suggested by Del [Nice try Del]

You know, you don't have to bugger off to the Med to have a good time, the Qld coast is remarkably good and a lot less crowded.

Although you might be wanting a good Catamaran , the girl's love 'em

We speak english, use familiar money , have cold beer and have ice.

What more could you want?

Thanks for the link, Del. I have often admired the Pardy vessel. Fortunately, or not, my 'first mate' is a 12 year old cat who hasn't experienced the joys of cruising so I might just have to wait until all his 9 lives have been lived before I can give serious consideration to letting go the lines...

Bloke I sailed the Med with was a Qld skipper completing circumnavigation who swore that once he got home wouldn't leave FNQ (except occasional Sth Pac circle). He said that in his opinion Qld waters beat anywhere else in the world!

Agreed, An Old cat and Qld waters probably wouldn't mix. I hope to be down thata way myself fairly soon.

As a future sailor of these here waters and a past comercial fisherman of these here waters,I couldn't agree more,the only thing the catman dosen't tell ya is the women on cats are a whole lot more high maintenance than the ones one the mono's.It's not hard to look sexy when ya heeled over a bit.<GR>.Mudnut.

My girl is no maintenance, she's handy at building boat's , she make's Rum,Gin,and beer, and she pay's for everything.



I'd reckon i'm much higher maintanence, nay , I know I am.
