Welcome to the Forum!

I lived in Melbourne for a few years..... Melbourne Florida that is!

Both places have nice sailing for lots of types of boats and sailors.

First thing to do is go sailing....

Formal classes are always a great way for beginners to learn the correct way first. You can also get a feel for it by joining others for a sail.

Go down to about any local club or marina on a weekend and meet up with other sailors. Generally lots of activity and you can probably get information on people who need crew for local races or just outings.

Look forward to your post!

yea! indeed, it's my plan! My middle/long-term plan is to became a crew member of a big boat, in February I might have some time for traveling around Australia, and my all-time-forbidden-dream is to do it cost-to-cost helped by the wind!
Maybe it's too ambitious, but I have to start somehow ;-) Who knows?
Till now I used to explore the water by swimming, snorkeling and free-diving! Always avoided scuba-diving: too invasive in the wonderful sea world... same idea for sailing.... love the music of the wind helping the boat to carry on!

Welcome aboard Maurox,
Walk the docks and say hi to a skipper messing about on his/her boat. Start up a conversation by saying.."beautiful vessel" then mention you have a dream to become a sailor too. Most people cannot resist the dream speech because we all have em. Pretty soon you'll have a sailing invite. Sailing lessons are important too.
Have fun, and happy sailing.
Erika

Aloha Maurox,
Welcome aboard the forum.
Ocean Girl has some good advice. I'd also advise to look for a local sailing club that offers basic sailing lessons.
Kind regards,
