Future cruiser

Hi, I joined this forum after reading all the amazing information available here. I've sailed on lakes so I know sailing basics, but know very little about cruising. My wife and I recently started considering what we will do when we retire in the next 9-12 year, and living aboard a boat is on our list. I figure we have about a decade to learn and practice and see if it is real. This is my first stop -- to learn from the experience of others.

Welcome hblask, What's your geographic area and expectations with vessel type and cruising area? Many here are retired, livingaboard cruisers who share successes and ideas.

My original idea was to mostly stay on the west coast, doing coastal cruising and enjoying southern CA by land and sea. But the more I read about the cruising lifestyle, the more I want to see everything, and cross the oceans, and see the islands of the south Pacific, and spend 5 years creeping around the Caribbean, and..... I wish I would've started when I was 30....
