From Crew to Cruisers

We are an Aussie couple from Ipswich in Queensland who are over the 9 to 5 & raising family thing and are now pursuing our dreams of exploring the world under sail. To start this adventure we sailed as crew with other cruisers. It began in June 2011 sailing around the north of Australia through Indonesia to Bali where we joined a ketch to Borneo & on to Malaysia. We raced in the Kings Cup Regatta in Thailand before flying to the Mediterranean to sail a high-tech Shipman 72 from Northern Italy to Malta, Tunisia, Sardinia, Mallorca & along the Spainish coast in winter. Next came Gibraltar to the UK via Portugal and the infamous Bay of Biscay. In 50 weeks we logged a total of 7,239 nautical miles or 13,406 kilometres. We also visited amazing places & shared equally amazing experiences, made lifelong friends, sailed with some absolutely wonderful owners, along with a couple of obnoxious ones. In partnership with Marc, a great friend we met crewing, we have now made the leap to cruising our own Jeaneau 43DS, Alcheringa. We sailed in the western Med last season and plan to spend the next two seasons exploring further east before crossing the Atlantic. We’re here for a good time not a long time and don’t plan to waste any of it. You can read about all of our adventures past, present & future at www.dreamtimesail.blogspot.com

Sounds like you have some major water under your keel. Welcome to the forum.
