Florida Wannabe

Hi Folks,

I've been looking for an exit strategy from this mundane daily routine that most call a "normal" life or as I some times think of it as The Rat Race.

So a week ago this decade old dream of owning a sailboat, and being able to pick your neighbors or to have none, lifted its pretty little head again.

Realistically the dream is still over a year away and im cruising these sites polishing it bit by bit and putting the hours in to make it materialize down the road.

On the downside I have never set foot on a sailboat,

I'll post on the crew section as well, but if anybody near palm beach county needs some help with their trip... PM me.

I am self employed for now so my hours are flexible, but probably should not take on too long of a first trip.

Thanks for reading,

Hart

Welcome. Sounds like another Dr. Phil story. You can escape civilization for a while, but eventually you have to come back for food, water, and all the things you missed while away. Don't let material things make you into a working slave-big house, big car, big mortgage.

Re: Florida wannabe

I was in the same boat 30 years ago: Never been on a sailboat in my life: No problem, still purchased a 44' Bermuda Yawl in St. Thomas and started sailing and living aboard.
Just do it, there is no negatives, no problems. Seriously.

that is what im planning to do, but ill wait to get a feel for sailing first.

ive mentioned this plan to maybe 4 people and everybody thinks its going to be a sure way to drown in the waves of the atlantic.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
May I suggest sailing lessons so that at least you'll know the safe way to sail and whether or not you like it.

Re: Florida Wannabe

thanks, i have thought about that, but they seem to cost an arm and a leg. now that ive started to talk about it more there seems to be plenty of sailors with out a boat around that would not mind sailing a bit.

the hardest part seems to be finding that really good deal that then does not turn into a total fixer upper =]
