Finally - We're Registered !

After 3 years on the hard doing a complete restoration, we're finally getting the boat finished and back in the water in July. We'll be ready to start our circumnavigation in September and then join the 18th Baja Ha-ha in Oct. No backing out now. We've never done long off shore sail trips, so are a little nervous and a lot anxious. Thanks for the welcomes to the Cruisers Forum!

Re: Finally, We're Registered!

The restored boat is a Pankee Stays'l Schooner, 85 ft, originally built and launched in 1934. She's got quite a marvelous history with her previous 3 owners, and we're thrilled to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. So is our wallet! But the boat is worth it as she'll be our home for many years to come. Destiny is in Port Townsend, WA being worked on by masters with wooden boats. New hull, deck, fuel/water tanks, masts, stem, bulwarks, nav sys, appliances, Carol Hasse sails, etc. A full restoration. We hope to have most of the sails by mid August to attend the Lat's & Att's Cruisers party in Friday Harbor - but will regardless if we have to motor in. Then back to PT for the Wooden Boat Festival. We'll head south after that. It's a little overwhelming right now, but we're so anxious to get back in the water.

When I figure out how, I'll post some pix. Thanks for asking about the boat.

Well, being as I'm not real computer savvy, here's a link to the 300 pix taken since March of the latest work on the boat to my Face Book page. Pictures are viewable to anyone - I think Dawn Hilliard | Facebook

I usually post new pix every other day, as work is going fast to reach our launch date of July 13th!

Cheers, Dawn

Nope the FB page is Dawn's personal one, and is private. Now, why not make a group page for the boat or something? It's as easy as hitting the 'create group' button under your avatar on your FB Home page, then you can share whichever pictures you like. As can people who join the group...

CF has a FB page also - you could link to that as well...

Thanks for the info! Sorry the linky thing didn't work ;( I'll do the group page thing and all the pix of Destiny are for anyone to view. There are now 4 albums! 6 weeks to go for the luanch, so work is happening at a feverish rate!

Thanks!

Yes! Very few folks put that together. We both use an Inspiration, and are cert'd on several others too. Are you also a CCR diver?

Cheers,

So I've downloaded pictures to the maximum of my frustration. CF says I have pix in the forum and for a profile pix. Are they there? Only 1 in the photo gallery that I can find. The picture is of Destiny when she launched in 1934. Can't figure out why there's no profile tho.
As for the FB - there's a group page set up for Destiny. Anyone should be able to click on my photo's and view the albums of Destiny's Restoration. I'm just not savvy enough with computers.

Cheers,
Was about to get an SCCR system but age and a shoulder injury (non dive related) slowed down my technical diving. Also it got to be a huge time eater. Would spend several evenings during the week filling and testing muliple mixes for the dive, start loading the truck Friday afternoon. Drive a few hours to the dive site, 2-3 hours unloading and setting up gear, anywhere from 1 to 10 hours in the water, more hours loading up, driving home, all the next day unloading, cleaning, drying gear.

It was fun for a while but decided it was time to go sailing again. Not to mention that I had already spent enough money on dive gear to buy a new Mercedes and the prospect of another ten K or so for breather, training and additional assorted gear was the final deciding factor.

Have been rethinking the breather idea for when I take off cruising. Impossible to get mix in out of the way places and taking a breather along would seriously extend your gas supply.

Do you plan on taking breather with you on the boat?
