Edward William Insurance

Hi Cruisers,
I am shopping around for insurance for my Mariner 31 Flybridge, (I am in Sydney Australia) has anyone had experience with Edward William ??
There was much discussion about this mob from several years ago but nothing recent, their quotes are half the price of Club Marine and LLoyds.

i have used them quite a bit for new owners who's boats i have delivered all over the world when other companies have insisted on a survey for full cover.

they have always been fast, reasonably priced and flexible for special cover for yachts being moved by me to exotic destinations around the world.

i never have had to make a claim though in over 40k miles of deliveries,so cannot comment on their after care service apart from them being very easy to contact direct by phone if you have a query.

Re: Edward William Insurance

I was with them since around 2000 for approx 15 years, paid my fees, their reminders were timely and courteous, questions were answered promptly and properly. Their documentation was good. But...... I never had to make a claim.
I am not sure what the golden standard is (in Australia). Is it Club Marine? Maybe the old saying (in all its iterations) applies here too.
1. Cheap insurance
2. Good service
3. Full payout on claims
One can have only 2 out of 3 elements.

There are other companies, like Topsail Topsail Insurance Australia | Marine Insurance Specialists - Topsail Insurance PTY Ltd
Their fees are generally, I think, in between Edward William and Club Marine. For the record, I am with Club Marine.

Added on edit:check Lisa Blair's website (sailing around the Antartic, dismasted South of South Africa), she was insured with Edward William, had a claim and they looked after her.

Re: Edward William Insurance

I also used them for several years but also made no claims. There was some unhappy customers on Google that claimed the company was a fraud, and I actually met a guy that displayed a not so nice sign on his boat about them.

I found no proof behind the fraudulent claims and also had the company address the accusations, can't remember the exact reply but it satisfied me at the time.

They have been around for years, and I think if their was anything behind the fraudulent claims they would not still be around.

Re: Edward William Insurance

I have gone with Topsail, they seem pleasant and efficient to deal with and the price is competitive, I suppose you will never really know till you make a claim.
