Crossing the Gulf from Tampa to Galveston

Hi:

I just joined the site.

I am about to make the crossing across the Gulf of Mexico from Tampa, Fl to Galveston, TX.

If anyone has done the crossing, has local knowledge, tribal knowledge, insights, etc, please share the knowledge.

Thanks,
b2rich

Re: Crossing the Gulf from Tampa to Galveston

I found more oil rigs off the coast of Louisanna than I could believe. They were all well lighted. It takes a crew to really do the crossing well. We went the other direction. We are only my wife and I. It was hard to do with just us two. We went from the Missippi River to Tampa in three and a half days. We used the ICWW from Galveston to Homa. It was great. Have a good trip.

Don't depend upon the wells to all be lighted, or charted. Either have radar, or travel in the safety zones/fairways and watch out for ship traffic. If you are going soon, carefully pick your weather window. Hitting a norther off the coast of Texas/Louisiana WILL ruin your trip. The Gulf is an ugly piece of water - don't watch just the wave heights, the wave periods are very critical. 6 foot waves with 5.5 second periods is very miserable.

^^^^ What Bill Said^^^^

The cold fronts are now here this time of year and they can be N-A-S-T-Y.... also look at the tropical WX; we have one building south right now
