Congrats on your retirement. You can leave the Army but the Army will never leave you - the good and the bad and by 32 yrs it must have been overwhelmingly good. How long have you been sailing? and have you toured the Hawaiian islands yet? I lived on a boat off Lahaina for a few years and it was really nice.
Where are you headed in the So Pacific?

pirate

I am currently near Honolulu but hope to leave in a month or so for Johnston Atoll, then onward to Marshall Islands, and finally to Kona Kitabalu in northern Borner for final home.

Yes, Army was good, had very good assignments in USA...never overseas.
AND,,,in 32 years I spent only one night in the field. How 'bout dat.

Spent 36 days from Mexican mainland to Pearl Harbor and Hilo...nice places.

Oahu ok for vacation but not to live, too expensive, too many cars, too many people, too much crime.

Unless you have an exceptionally high security clearance, and they know you're coming and have cleared it in advance, I wouldn't get my hopes up for calling on Johnston, if I were you. God only knows what they're doing out there in the middle of nowhere, but whatever it is they don't like company.

If you do manage to land at Johnston, please let us know what you were able to observe.
