we bought a 2011 Elan 410 that was in mint condition, very few miles, only 360 enginhours,extremely knowledgeable PO. Bought in July, got away in September (from Bretagne) & had a terrific year in
French Polynesia before Covid. (So in retrospect it was all the better not to have "wasted" time with the Comfortina - just by chance...)
@teakdeck:
2 lines of argumentation against it:
1. absolutely insufferably hot: underfoot &
heating up the
interior. Maybe ok for weekender/holyday-boat polewards of say 45*Latitude, for a "bluewater" cruiser imho an absolute dealbreaker. Our Elan had the unavoidable "contemporary"
cockpit teak - & would have been much better without it!
2. NO, ZERO, fasteners must go into cored portions of the
deck. Teakdeck with bungs: 10.000 screws go into your
core: if only 1% let in
water...
Teakdeck without bungs: likelihood is screws or staples invisibly placed in the grooves & caulked over...-same as bungs. Only if you can be absolutely, 100% sure it was glued & vacuum-bagged on is it "acceptable" (except see point 1)
my take on teakdecks: senseless, expensive, heavy & impractical vanity - at best!
