Greetings to all, from the new(est) kid (55--ya, right...) on the pier... The beginning of November opened with the "bucket list" opportunity to crew on a
delivery of a spankin' new
Catalina 445 from
Newport, RI to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. with my
delivery captain bro-in-law. A few years of smaller
boat sailing (up to 22') sorta kinda, well, maybe not really, prepared me for this voyage--it was an eye-opener for me, for sure... Although the theory, the physics, and mechanics of sailing were there, everything just happened on a lot grander scale; the
equipment, the forces, the
weather, the
water, and the
route (and did I mention, the $$ spent by the owner?--glad it was his bill, not mine...). Not a pleasure
cruise by any stretch; a "working vacation" to be sure, and certainly an adventure, with a story longer than I should speak here. Anyway, I got "the bug"... My tastes are eclectic; I fell in love with the British
Fisher pilot-house
motorsailer that tied up behind us on the Mega-Dock in Charleston; and the very clean
Nor'Sea 23 that sits on a
trailer across from my workplace just teases me unmercifully, and calls me like a siren's song... Glad I found this forum, and look forward to reading your sea stories!
