Ciao from Tuscany

Hello! We're Americans living in Italy. We brought Pohono, our Hudson 50, from Newport RI to Gandia Spain on a cargo freighter, sailed to the Balearics, Sardinia, Corsica and to Italy where she is moored on the River Arno in Marina di Pisa. We hope to take her to Greece, up to Croatia and then down to Turkey. If anyone has any good info on reasonably priced marinas in Turkey we'd be grateful to hear it. Most of the web sites we've visited don't have much to offer in information for Turkish marinas. The Croatian marinas are pretty well covered and the ACI will send a very nice brochure of their marinas. Hope to meet some of you in the Med!

Hello Pohono

We are in north eastern Italy. I will be watching for your posts as your trip develops. We shipped our 10meter Catalac via Dockside from Ft Lauderdale to Mallorca and motor sailed her some 2500 miles to here. (About 10 knots to the Slovenian border). Page and Jan

The maritime museum in Pisa is a must see. You won't be disappointed.

Hello jannpage! Are you in Aviano? We're near Lucca. Will be leaving for Tunisia at the end of September - hopefully. We have to get out of the EU before we can return and spend another 18 months sailing in the Aegean. Still have no definitive answer on how long the boat has to be out of the EU before returning to start the clock once again. Paying the VAT is a poor option for us as there are no countries in the EU that have low VAT percentages. We're hoping that the predicted sliding scale will come into fruition soon as our boat is a '79 so shouldn't have a high percentage. We'll see.
