Good luck in your undertaking. Yes, its been done before with some measure of success and that means that you could do it to successfully.
Yes on finding a different name which would not be confused with the Maritime Academy.

the sea cadets is associated directly to the the royal navy which is church of england(anglican)primarily,though all races and religions are catered for.

becoming part of an existing organisation will offer a greater variety of options for a start up than going it alone,especially in the marine sector where there is a lot of red tape and liability issues.

To answer Dr Chap's questions I would think the business model of existing organizations would be helpful. Perhaps partnering with existing orgs would be fruitful.

Welcome Dr.Chaps. Glad to see ya here ! The Bible was required reading aboard our boat for the kids and ourselfs. But so was the Koran, and other books from asia and other religish publications! Altho we think of our selfs as Christians, we sorta lean toward agnostic! LOL but Im sure your idea would be a good one for sucess !! Good for ya ! and we hope to see more from ya in the future

The US may of course be different - but over here they are seperate organisations. The Sea Cadets more of a military based organisation.

FWIW, me was a Sea Scout - sort of (I went AWOL after 1 day ).

Another difference here, AWOL is a ground pounder's term. For Seaman it's UA (Unauthorized Absence).
