Total noob to this forum, and
forums in general, so pls forgive any gaffes.
I have my '83
Catalina 36, Marjory J, docked on
Clear Lake and have been enjoying sailing Galveston Bay. I've only made one trip down the coast so far, single-handing to
Freeport and back. Beautiful trip on the ICW! Heading out again next week, WX permitting.
I'm pretty handy, and have done all the
work on my
boat myself, minus major
fiberglass repair (can't stand doing glasswork, and it shows!) and sewing. Not much else I haven't tackled, and it's a joy to sail the fruits of your labor.
I have a very flexible job schedule,
single, and no
kids, so I have extended time off. I hope to meet some fellow sailors in a similar situation who can join me, or I them, on some excursions. And if you need crew, I can meet/leave the
boat from any city with a
commercial airport, including most of the
Caribbean, so you don't have to buy me a ticket to/from.
Lastly, I reach
retirement age at the airline in less than two years and plan working full-time in the
marine industry. I've got a 50t and TWIC, so would appreciate any
employment tips you might have. I worked on the recreational side, owning my own sailing
charter company for 11 years, but want to
work on the
commercial side moving forward.
Thanks for reading. Hope to see you on the
water or around
Clear Lake for a cold one.
