Re: Captain Ron's Wanderer in Refit!
Welcome to the forum...That boat has such great character. This forum will be a big help in the restore. Ultimately, no matter how much advice you get here, you'll have to make all the decisions yourself. It certainly is worth restoring. You could probably charter her out as a Captain Ron vessel. Just a thought to recoup some of your outlay.

Our friends who live across the dock from us on a Formosa 51 (Ghost) often play Captain Ron by projecting it on a sail at what used to be the yearly Latts & Atts party.

Re: Captain Ron's Wanderer in Refit!
Just curious, but does yours have the CG + CL carved in the master cabin like in the movie? That would be cool. Good on you for bringing her back. Deep within every neglected boat lies a weeping soul.

Best of Luck on the restoration. Such a classic movie. Famous quote "Whatever happens, Gonna happen out there".

Re: Captain Ron's Wanderer in Refit!
Rick Weiler at Little Yachts said he thought the Wanderer was there. He said he could see her from his office. Wish I'd known, I would've dropped by last weekend.
I can sand and paint with the best of 'em!!
And I'm a fair hand with a hot wrench ( not that you'd need one!!).

You should replicate the initials and wall carvings to match the movie. Oh and while you're working on her be carefully of anyone who might leave the belt sander sitting on the belt while the electric is being fixed ;-)

Re: Captain Ron's Wanderer in Refit!
Unfortunately, not. The interior was all a sound stage in the movie...i'd kill to have that aft cabin and engine room...

Re: Captain Ron's Wanderer in Refit!
Is it just re-finishing the coach house or is there rot in it?

Re: Captain Ron's Wanderer in Refit!
You got dry rot. Every boat has it. You are lucky, yours is above the water line.
Couldn't resist.

Oh, there's plenty of rot...most window areas need the core replaced...not sure how much yet though... plan on using 3/4 marine plywood in two or three layers as a replacement core, then reskin with the original teak planking.
