Calling All Alpa 42 Owners

We just bough an Alpa 42, year 1974 and wish to make contact with other Alpa owners. Our information is that only 13 of this particular size boat and design were ever built. Can anyone confirm this? We'd also love to hear about the earlier history of the Alpa 42. We also heard the Swan design was based on the Alpa 42. Is this true? We read on the site that VieuxMalin from Sardina also has an Alpa 42. We are keen to make contact with you and compare notes. Pierre and Tish Massyn. Email pierrefmassyn@orange.fr

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Pierre and Tish.

Sailboat Data wonders if
“The Alpa 42 molds were later purchased by the Zuanelli yard where, with a few modifiactions, it became the Zuanelli 42?”

ALPA 42 Sailboat details on sailboatdata.com (units English)

Founded in 1956 by Danilo Cattadori, Alpa was one the earliest producers of fiberglass boats in Europe. Early on, the company gained a reputation for it's high quality fiberglass FLYING DUTCHMAN class boats. The first larger yacht was the ALPA 50, introduced in 1969, Far more successful was the Van de Stadt designed ALPA 6.7. This was followed by the 9.24, 9.5 ane 11.5. Other yachts were the Alpa 42, Alpa 38, 19, 21, 27 and 34. Although the Alpa name was resurrected in 1990, the production sailboat operation closed it's doors in 1977.

Hello Pierre and Tish

I have an Alpa 38 and she resides at the end of my land in the lagoon in Panama.

I think she is perfect but I do have problems getting in through the reef and then negotiating my way through the sand-bars to my muelle. However, a small price to pay for her, and her centre-cockpit has proved wonderful on so many occasions, as the large aft-cabin is better than all I have seen for its spaciousness.

I have met an Alpa 42 in Bocas del Toro years ago, owned by an Italian man but do not have any contact numbers for you.

Enjoy her

Hi everyone,
We are looking to purchase an Alpa 42 ketch to travel around the world in family.
I'm wondering what sailing performance I should expect?
Any experience?
Thank you !

My Alpa 38 was a faithful boat, well found when at anchor and cruised to many places in comfort. I am sure that the 42 will serve your family well. Enjoy her.

Hi Capricorntwenty, we are on our way to look at an Alpa 42 in Devon. Is there any advise you can give me? Are there any issues with the hull and deck delamination ect.

Regards Niall and Bernadette

Hi Niall,
How was the boat? Interested to hear any/all feedback. Considering my own Alpa 42 purchase, and was wondering your thoughts or experiences from the viewing.

Re: Calling All Alpa 42 Owners

In case there are any other active Alpa owners out there... We bought the boat mentioned above, and are currently prepping her for liveaboard cruising

Reach out if you want - we'd be happy to chat Alpa's! Doesn't seem like there are too many left out there...

Cheers,
R
