Hi,
I'm new to this forum and and I have a question.
What makes a boat roll down wind at sea? Full keel, fin keel, beam, or hull shape? I've heard this problem associated with a Cape Dory as well as a Cal 39. Two very different boats.
thank you for having me.
I remember hearing that the IOR era boats were notorious for this behavior. They were mostly fin keelers with overhangs and narrow sections fore and aft, round and portly amidships.
I don't think there is any way to keep a boat from rolling going downwind. Ever heard the song "Rolling Home"? A boat will roll more if it has a narrow beam and tall rigging.
kind regards
