Smile Beginner from Orange County CA looking for schools

Hello, I am new to sailing and seeking instruction with an eye towards future chartering and possible ownership. I reside in Orange County California and will be starting from scratch on sailing.

I seek recommendations on schools that offer ASA or US Sailing certifications that are within an hours drive of Orange County CA.

Thank you!

drive down to newport an d walk around a bit. you will find many ideas. then look in occ brochure..may need to fetch it from online and find sailing...
should be easy in this computer age. newport beach is a huge boating place..mebbe you can even find more than one school.

when i googled sailing schools newport beach cali i found many listings. you have good choices there.

Re: Beginner from Orange County CA looking for schools

There's only 2 harbors in OC, Newport and Dana Point, NP is busy place, takes a long time to get out of the harbor, and you can learn to dodge fast moving ferry boats in a narrow channel. DP not so busy, shorter distance to harbor mouth, and traffic dodging is usually more SUP's, rental kayaks and PWC's. OCC is well regarded and has extensive range of instruction available. Sailing clubs are an option, there's one in Dana, Aventura, may be some in Newport. There's also Westwind, which teaches at the county sailing center, mostly small boats.

OCC in Newport, Aventura in Dana. Westwind in Dana has classes on dinghys but I think they skew towards juniors. Aventura is NOT ASA affiliated if you're looking for specific ASA.

PMd you some other info.
