Back to the Island

Greetings Cruisers.
New member here. As retirement nears, the urge to get back out on the water grows stronger. Although born and spent my first 42 years in AZ, my second career brought me to SWFL and Charlotte Harbor.
During my 9 years there, I owned three power fishing boats. Wife and I returned in AZ five years ago but now her journey is coming close to an end and it’s going to be just the two dogs and me sailing off into a retirement sunset.
I’ve decided I need to get back to SWFL and the barrier islands. My plan is to get a retractable keel sailboat, like a Seaward 32RK, so my Aussies can run the beaches each morning and evening, while we cruise and or fish the days away. Will spend mid Oct - mid Apr on the water between Charlotte Harbor and the Keys.
April - October I will return to the mountains of Northern AZ and either boondock in my 40’ 5th wheel or maybe even camp host, if I decide I want more structure.

Looking forward to getting to read more of your experiences and learning from the forum.

Welcome aboard CF, Messing About.

Yes, it is a difficult time, glad you have the dogs to look after and love. They are such gentle and welcome company.

A great plan if you have the means. SW FL in the winter would be a great place to be. Don't forget the waters north of there as well .. all the way to Clearwater Beach.
