Anyone seen one of these?

Hi all - just throwing this one out in the general arena - we found this awning/shade on our boat when we bought her (31ft Elizabethan yacht) but have no idea how to rig it up? Not sure if its even for our boat :-)? Anyone seen anything like this or know how it works?
It seems to have a ring in the top so it could be attached to a line and then these two openings that look like they should go round the mast or back stay or......at funny angles so don't see how this would work....?

Attach your main halyard to the ring. Haul up, jiggle it around to see how it fits. It's a boom tent type awning.

A pic of the boat and/or dinghy might be helpful...

Do you have twin backstays? What attachment points can you find on your deck?

Re: Anyone seen one of these?

I also vote for a foredeck cover / sunshade.

But FWIW, my boat came with 2 aft cockpit covers (UK style - not US full enclosures) - and neither of them fitted! (very close though!). I was aware before the sale. Likely reason was pre-current Vendor that the Sprayhood / Dodger had changed, or the covers came off a sistership following an upgrade.

I mention it simply because boats sometimes acquire "stuff" that has no clear reason.....

We were thinking it might not 'belong' to the boat - my thoughts were some kind of foredeck shade but just doesn't sit right so might just try hoisting it up on the main & seeing if I can get it as a boom tent - here's the boat....

Re: Anyone seen one of these?

Aloha and welcome aboard!
I had a boat that gathered so many awnings and tents that it really was hard to sort out since a lot of them came from other boats. Same with sails.
Best way is as suggested just hoist it up and try it in different places.
Good luck.
kind regards,
