Anyone in or near Green Coves Springs Marina?

Hi, all! My Husband and I are looking to buy a 40' Irwin Citation that has been on the hard for at least 2 years and does have a few leaks but seems to be structurally sound. It does need electrical re-wiring, but my Husband can do a lot of this himself. As he is a certified Mechanic for over 30 years. The owner does not live here and I guess a family member came down with an illness, is why he cut his dream short. This would be our first live-aboard and we are determined to leave the hustle and bustle land world, not to travel Far, Far away... But just be simple, comfy and live among the boating community. The only thing is, we would have to live near by Green Cove Springs Marina to work on the boat to get it in the water and livable. This guy was asking 20,000 for the vessel, but after I took pics. and my husband and I pumped the water because of the leaks , he is willing to work with us. We have looked at getting a loan, however, hardly anyone would loan for a boat. We could get a loan for a house, but not a boat. Wow.. go figure, anyhow, we really would love to get on the water ASAP! But can't afford to rent, pay for storage And fix the boat. Has anyone had this experience? And if so, would love some feedback. Thanks and Happy Sailing!

Welcome to the forum. There are companies that specifically loan on boats. Their interest rates are much higher than that of a home. Plus you would need a survey for Insurance purposes, since it will have a note on it. They cost too.
Realistically, you need to look at all the costs of boat ownership...Taxes, Insurance, the loan, repairs...the list goes on. I can tell you it will not be that much less than your lifestyle now.
