Another New Mermaid :-)
Greetings! I've done some reading on here, there are some lively conversations!!
Just saying hi and quick intro-I've always loved being in or on or near the water more than anything. Have done a bit of diving, and make a pretty good beach bum. Sailed with my dad some when I was young(er) but just now learning to do it on my own, excited to be on the water as much as possible!
Hope to have my own boat someday, but for now learning as much as possible at my new favorite marina as well as online-looking forward to learning, socializing and hearing all the great stories of what to do and what not to do!
Lora

Re: Another New Mermaid :-)
Thanks! Seems to me hearing and seeing about everyone elses boats will help me decide exactly what I want! Grew up Chicago but been East Coast whole adult life, love the Bay for sailing!

Welcome to the forum. Always nice to have a new mermaid.
Don't think of it as deciding on a boat. The right boat will choose you, rather than the other way around. The problem with this is that 83% of the boat owners on this forum think that they've found the perfect boat.
Just ignore the 82.9% who are wrong about your boat.

Re: Another New Mermaid :-)
Good point Bash, I think of it more as 'experiencing' as many boats as I can I guess...until the right one comes along! Kind of like life isnt it?

And ignore the 99.9% that dont have a boat like mine. They are all idiots...
Welcome aboard. Being geographically challenged you say you are in the east on the bay????? The east is a pretty long place. But I am guessing you mean the Chesapeake?
Only did one trip there. Powerboated on a trawler. Great day eating soft shell crabs. The proverbial $1000 lunch...

Do you think you'll ever live aboard or are you planning to find a weekender?

Ex-Cali-you are right, the East Coast goes on a bit! Yes I do mean the Chesapeake, lower, Virginia! I hope that was a helluva lunch
Thanks for the welcome GordMay!
JeTexas-I would love to try liveaboard someday...I think I would really like it but have only been on a week at time the longest so far. Just love the idea of the freedom and simplicity! Suspect will be a gradual transition but who knows??

Re: Another New Mermaid :-)
Thanks drinkboy! Very cool, Little Creek is near, just other end of beach from where I have been so far.
And I lived in NC for about 3 years in another lifetime, but never got to be near any boats there!

Re: Another New Mermaid :-)
Lora,
Welcome to CF, I'm sure you will fit in quite nicely. If you think what you have found so far here is a lively group, just wait until you do some further digging. If single, you might want to check out this thread.....
http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...eux-62608.html
If married and have a 14 year old daughter, you might want to keep her away from this thread http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ion-52522.html
as you might discover one morning your daughter has left you a note and taken your new sailboat for a little around the world cruise.
And if you want to see what the new friends that you are going to make here at CF looked like through the years of age progression, check out this thread http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...res-75584.html
After all this investigating, if you still feel like this place is a good fit for you, then it more than likely is, so have fun and again, Welcome Aboard.
