another new guy

hey all

new guy here. long time lurker

i sailed a lot as a kid, mainly up and down the cape on anything i could get a hold of. usually cats, some day sailers.

they thing is, 20 years later, i don't remember how to sail, if i ever did as a kid!

i recall all the physics of it, but can't remember the mechanics of it, and certainly don't recall the rules of the road.

so, i have two questions for you all as i begin my journey back onto the water

1- can one enjoy sailing on the hudson river (we leave near bear mountain) or should i consider a stink potter? is there really enough wind to sail down to nyc for the day and get back?

2- is the hunter 27 a good starter boat? i'm thinking about one of the 1980s ones...

and of course, any recommendations about good places to berth and store (i live up too steep a hill to think about trailering her home in winter
and of anyone selling a boat which needs little to no work to be seaworthy.

thanks- all stupid questions, i know, but i'm just starting to get my head into this,

-mud

Aloha Mud,
Welcome aboard!! What do you need to know? Yes you can sail wherever there is deep enough water. If there are any other sailboats around then you can do it too. The Hunter 27 is a good "starter" boat. Try find the book "Start Sailing Right!" if you've forgotten anything about sailing it'll help you remember the right things.
kind regards,
JohnL
