Aloha from Honolulu (also, Seattle)

Hi all,

I'm Ali, mom to 8 and 10 year olds, wife to "ohthetrees" on here. We bought a Hanse 505 (50ft) in November in New Caledonia, which was making its way to Seattle with crew in order for us to start a year long (maybe longer) sabbatical in July. Due to the very small but also very devastating virus, the boat is now in Hawaii, and we are all living on it (while working, homeschooling, doing our best to manage stress, working on the boat . . .).

It needs a new rig and sails, so we wait here until that happens. And then we go somewhere - the 'where' depending on government responses to aforementioned virus. The original plan had been to cruise Vancouver Island and then down the west coast to the Sea of Cortez. It was a nice plan while it lasted!

Hoping to make some connections here, especially since we can't exactly hang out in person.

We imported the, at the time Swiss registered, boat here in Honolulu, and I can share our (expensive) experience on that.

Hi Ali, Steve here, i registered yesterday, welcome; former Hawaii resident, now 2500 miles south. My wife and i are trying to make a plan to return when we can....stuck here for a while.

Aloha Ali Welcome to Hawaii. What island are you on and which Marina. Hopefully you have completed your 14 day quarantine and are able to get out a little bit for exercise in the parks. I am in Honolulu if you need some local knowledge.

There are a lot worse places you could have been stuck. Forced to live on a sailboat in Hawaii for many months, how horrible.

We are also in Honolulu at Ko Olina. There are several boats here that are refugees from the South Pacific. We were en route back to the PNW as well via AK but have decided to stay here until next spring to see how things shake out. AK now giving credit for time at sea toward quarantine but no inter port travel so... just gonna wait and see. If we can be of any assistance let us know.
