Allo

G'day folks,

I'm a nomadic writer about to set sail to Indonesia as part of the Sail Indonesia rally.

I've never sailed before so I'm pretty excited. I'm going around the world via land and sea only, bartering work skills (or any type of help needed) in exchange for accommodation, food and passage.

I leave Darwin at the end of July and will hop off at Alor where I'll be couchsurfing with a local. I'll make my way across the islands and up to Thailand to be a certified scuba diver instructor and from Thailand find passage to South America for the World Cup next year.

I'll be traveling until I can't travel any more. Might meet you somewhere in the world...

Setting Sail

Thanks for the hearty welcome, folks.

Setting sail to Indonesia this coming Saturday, July 27. From Indo I'm gonna couchsurf and surf some waves heading westward and making my way north to Thailand.

While there I'm gonna get certified as a scuba diver instructor and work for a bit while hunting down a sailing passage to Brazil (or anywhere in the Americas) for the World Cup next year.

If y'all know of anyone heading that way from Thailand, please let me know or send them my way.

If anyone's interested, my blog address is thenomadicdiaries.wordpress.com

and on facebook, https://www.facebook.com/thenomadicdiaries

See y'all somewhere around the world.

Re: Allo

Hey John,

It's going well. Island hopped through Indonesia up to Singapore then made my way to Malaysia where I spent a week in the jungle, volunteering in the conservation of the critically endangered Malayan tiger with a group called MYCAT.

Got sucked dry by leeches and slept in hammocks between the trees.

Hitch-hiked from Kuala Lumpar all the way to Bangkok and now I'm gonna go explore this Land of a Thousand Smiles.

I'm looking to get to Africa via boat from Thailand, working in exchange for passage and doing the same to get to Brazil by April, 2014.

Happy sailing
