Hi everyone. A search of "live aboard marinas" led me here! I'm beginning to explore the possibility of
living aboard a sailboat. With one child out of college and launched, another soon to be launched, my spouse and I are plotting our course, as it were.
I love being in, on or near the ocean and do a little surfing as well. Since childhood I've been fascinated by boats of all types. My wife, on the other hand does not swim, nor will she board a
boat, the SI
Ferry excepted. So, we are contemplating a shift to more of a long distance type marriage, wherein she would live very happily in a small Manhattan apartment, whilst I would take up residence on a sailing vessel of some sort and ply the waters of the eastern US seaboard.
My sailing experience is limited to daily sailing for a couple of weeks on a lake as a teenager aboard a Star class. And, to sailing with a friend in the lower NY bay, and
Raritan bay on his homebuilt sailboat. (He is of Norwegian descent, was a US
Marine, and is indeed a master mariner, boatwright,
mechanic, welder, etc. He is a
commercial hardhat diver by
trade. If I were to actually reach the point of getting a
boat, he would be my mentor.)
Anyway, I'm hoping to turn fantasy into reality!
So, I'll be spending some time here trying to learn what I can. And hoping I don't get totally flamed!
