Hi there.
We're new to this site so a little introduction. Been living on a narrow boat for two years in England after spending 15 years living and working in La Rochelle France but never finding the time to sail. Now after our 6 kids have finally flown the coop we feel its our time to fulfill our dream and sail.
We will be needing lots of advice along the way from searching for our vessel to planning where to go.
We have both sailed in our younger years, whilst sailing is a bit like riding a bike, a lot of the technologies have moved on. We are also older 52&55(and maybe a little bit wiser). My partner was involved in a motorbike accident and only has the use of one arm - just to make things a little more challenging.
We do hope there will be some of you out there that will be able to guide us in our future adventures.

Your early 50's is a great time to start cruising. For you guys, be sure to size the winches to the least strong of the two of you. It may be a big investment to upgrade them in the beginning, but it is a choice that will serve you well throughout your cruising years.

Looking for a boat with big or powered winches will make thing easier. Many modern boats have bi-directional powered winches as well as windlass. In mast furlers eliminate hoisting the main. The easier you make it, the more you will get going.

We are about 10% powered but we have a Milwaukee 1/2 inch right angle drill motor, 28 volts lithium powered with a winchbit to power any winch. Make sure you turn the right angle pert for 2:1 reduction.
