Hello, my name is Jon and I'm an alco....wait a minute, that's another board...

New to the board and not so new to sailing, but don't own a boat. Had a couple powerboats back when I was a kid and was actually quite proficient at it as opposed to some people who merely drive a boat. Sailed a friend's Mac 26S in recent years enough to be able to go from here to there and back again (see sig).
Stuck here in flyover country for now but in a few years plan on moving to the Tidewater area of VA and buying my first sailboat. Don't know if I'll get a trailerable or a fixed keel yet but by then I'll have learned enough to be able to make an educated decision based on what kind of sailing I'll be planning.

I'll probably have lots of newbie questions after a while as I tend to get into the technical details of things. One can never have too much good information...but ya gotta be able to know the diff between good and not so good.

I'll be lurking for now.....

Welcome.! Tidewater VA is pretty nice for us. You would probably want a lbit larger boat but there still are lots of places to sail a trailerable boat. Once it's too big to trailer then it needs to be big enough to handle more carrying capacity and ability to take on heavier weather.

Sailing is at the end of the day is still sailing. A way that gets you out on the water as much as possible is usually the right answer. Boats don't care where they live it's the people.

S/V Anteras, yes, it does relate to two wheels. They are my "land yachts".
I like the Chesapeake area as my son as his family have lived in Suffolk for the past 9 years (career Navy).
Considering a trailerable so I can yank it out of the water in the winter (or when they guide a hurricane that way) yet keep it in a slip during the Summer, plus something that is fairly easy to sail for a beginner one handed. Almost said a one handed beginner!
Already priced the lessons at the Norfolk Naval marina and plan on doing that next year.
Keeping all the options open. Kind of like the Hunter 260.
