Hey all, very happy to be here.
My name is George and my wife and I are brand new to sailing. We took a few informal lessons near the end of last season and will be taking classes/getting our basic keelboat
certification at the beginning of this season. I've read The New Complete Sailing Manual by Steve Sleight at least twice in the offseason! I'm a little obsessed with sailing right now. I'm an
engineer and the small nuances of control inputs (sheets, vang, backstay, etc) to change the aerodynamics of the sail interest me. Also, being on the
water has just been lots of fun.
Anyways, very excited to be here. I'm sure I'll learn a lot. The club at which we will be
learning uses Sonar 23s with custom (flatter)
sails. Any helpful hints there?
I'll keep you up to date on our progress. The season starts May 1 and I'll be looking to start as soon as the first class is offered. The plan (for now) is to become members of the club and use their Sonars for some
day sailing on Boston Harbor. Eventually, I want to own a
boat but that is for later. I'm 27, relatively newly married, and will have to see what life throws at us in the next year or two (ehem, babies?).
