Re: A returning poser.....er, I mean poster!
Welcome back, young lady! Glad to have you back on board. You will find things largely unchanged... same repeated questions, same silly answers, but all spiced with the occasional gem of a discussion. We look forward to your contributions!

Sorry, I have no advice on windlasses though. I’m still happily throwing out my back.
Btw let’s hear about your transpac highlights!

If you're still hauling up an anchor by hand, then I suspect your back is in great shape. My dive buddy and I would anchor off Point Lobos. Pulling up even a small anchor by hand was a workout! He was in his 80s and in much better shape than me.
Should I start a new thread about my Singlehanded TransPacific race or the Pacific Cup that I did with a boat full of women last summer? I don't think I've ever written about the latter. It was hugely different experience. It made me realize how much I didn't know about communication and the power of good leadership skills.

Good to be back! As I get older, "The more things change, the more they stay the same," starts making more literal sense to me.
I would contribute more if I could figure out how to get the app to work. "The more tech savvy I get, the more delusional I seem to be!"

Yes! Please! Tell us about your experiences and revelations.
KInda deep to anchor off Pt. Lobos, no? What a stunningly beautiful place to dive though. I learned there when I was in high school.

Re: A returning poser.....er, I mean poster!
Welcome back, we missed you.
Regarding windlasses, I assume you are going to get a powered one.
My standing advice is make sure that it has a realistic manual override. If the motor goes out or the power fails for some reason you can install a handle and get the anchor up by hand. The Lofrans Tigres is an example: https://www.lofrans.com/product/71-h...es/5017-tigres. I am not reccommending it, merely using it as an example.
