Well, I know what you are saying.

I see a lot of differences between "POWER boaters" in shiny super-yachts and motor boaters / mariners with a trawler or recreational fishing vessel.

Same b.t.w. for sailing people - some hiring crew's - some sail themselves.

It's not a question of propulsion technology - it's a question of life style.

I think we're on the same page. I used to own a new, shiny Clorox-bottle style boat. That boat was perfect for what I was using it for at the time (just the two of us, weekend and vacation coastal cruising.) I loved that little boat. It could go fast when the conditions cooperated, but was rugged enough to get there even when they didn't. And it fit nicely into spots in the anchorage or marina that no-one else could take.

Now I own a an older, bigger, slower, heavier and less shiny cruiser. Again, it fits my lifestyle at the moment.

But I can tell you I get a very different attitude from folks when I pull into some fishing outport in that thing, than I did in the shiny Clorox bottle. Occasionally even sailors show a little respect.
