The Liberty Landing marina is an excellent stop for transients with shuttles over to the City for sightseeing etc. if desired. Much better than 79th st.

As to the Jersey Coast...you must go offshore in your boat. You can do it in discrete day jumps or a <24hr. run offshore to Cape May inlet. Day sailing you would stop at Manasquan Inlet and Atlantic City Inlet before going in at Cape May on the 3rd night. All are good inlets but you need a good forecast to get them in any event. After Cape May, you must go back out the inlet and up the Delaware Bay as your mast height is 5 feet over the Cape May Canal bridge clearance. Not a difficult trip if you just be sure of a good forecast.

Moorings in NYC

We are currently at the 79th St Marina. The cost is $30/day or $180 per
week. The end of the season is Oct 31st, then they remove the moorings
for the winter. I hear the holding is not good for anchoring here.
At Sandy Hook, we saw boats anchored in the area next to the Coast Guard station. We anchored behind the breaker wall at the Atlantic Highlands.
We rode out 20-25 kt winds there with no problems back in mid Aug.
There are many mooring balls there, we inquired but were told that they
were private. Hope this helps.
