1988 Carver 4207 aft cabin. Twin Mercruiser (GAS)

Hello

I have a 1988 Carver 4207 aft cabin(Gas)

does anyone have any info on what maintenance I can do or look forward to on the seacocks, propellers for the water pumps, anything helpful? I change the skimmers for both motors, our 7.5 kohler generator and 3 ACs. Just hoping someone else has this style boat and can give me any info on what to look out for. I’ve had the boat for 2 years with little to no issues

Hi Mark...Welcome to the forum. A good place to post for information needed might be in the Powerboat Category. Maybe when you get time update your bio so we can see where you are.

Welcome! I'm guessing your Mercruisers are the 340hp 454 / 7.4. If so, I've got the same engines.

Generally I plan to replace the seawater pump impellers every 2 years, risers every 5. Belts get done every few years. Spark plugs and oil get done every year unless I've done enough hours to need an oil change sooner. Trans fluid every couple of years as well. Beyond that, pretty much everything else is monitored for condition and changed as needed, or if I'm already touching it and it's not pretty new (for stuff like hoses).

How hard are the impellers to change? Where are they located? Thank you for the info

Assuming Mercruiser 454s, the water pump">raw water pump is behind the lowest pulley on the engine (next to the crank pulley, the one with belt only going between it and the crank pulley). I find it easiest to remove the belt and unbolt the pulley, then take the whole pump off the engine to open it up and change the impeller. Depending on how much room is around the lower part of the engine on your boat, you might be able to disconnect the hoses and pull the housing off the pump with it still on the engine.

If you need more, there are tons of videos online showing the process on various Mercruiser engines of that time period.

Similar time period and general type of boat, but not the same boat. Mine is an 86 Chris Craft 381 Catalina.
