Who exactly decides if a thread is to be closed?

Sorry if this has already been covered but....

How many moderators are there at CF and is there any pre-consensus between moderators as to which threads are "closed" or can a thread be closed at any time any individual moderator wishes ?

Not trying to stir anything up. Just curious. Thanks.

Re: Who exactly decides if a thread is to be closed

It is a strange and mysterious procedure originating in the mists of time...........

........Some say it involves them all getting butt naked, Voodoo and a Goat.

Not me of course, just sayin' what I've heard

I think the term is "buck naked." And I'd like to point out that members of the Board of Advisers do not generally participate in these rituals.

My general understanding is that it requires the “buck” to react poorly, feeling he is the “butt” of the joke… thus causing both to make disparaging remarks about national or political affiliation of the butthead or “buck”

When they start to talk about hunting season, it is generally Closed!

But then again… I could be mistaken....

I think 'butt naked' works just fine, if I see a butt I'm pretty sure somebody is naked.

If that somebody is a male then 'buck naked' works too.

You obviously haven't thought this through. Anyone who drops trousers is butt naked, regardless of gender, even though s/he might not be topless at that point. A person wearing nothing but socks is certainly butt naked, but not buck naked. Humans are not technically buck naked until all clothing is removed.

Re: Who exactly decides if a thread is to be closed

It is really imporoper to ask about board moderation policies...

... they really do their best, and frankly unless you have been a part of the process you have NO idea how difficult it can be.

Having said that, I happen to know the procedure here, and will share it with you since you ask......

First a thread is reported (you can do this with the small triangle ! mark in the right corner of a post). This places it into a reported post sub forum within the moderator forum....

THen (and here is the part no one else can know)... a cry goes out....

"Bring out the Gimp!"

The thing is that the Gimp from Pulp Fiction is busy... so they have this gimp cat...
... it is all very technical.... and it only get's more difficult to explain from here.

Have you considered volunteering to be a moderator here? They may be accepting applications...

If they are butt naked (but not buck naked as I previously defined it) then they are naked enough for my purposes.

Butt or buck suffice it to say there are "parts" of the procedure you do not want to see

Re: Who exactly decides if a thread is to be closed

Where I come from the term is nekkid. Naked is what you are in the doctors office. Nekkid is when voodoo and goats are involved.

Will have to do further research on the butt vs buck controversy.

Re: Who exactly decides if a thread is to be closed

If there are any naked buck butts, I totally missed em. To address the OPs question... The decision to close a thread is made after some substantial discussion and agreement by the site team. The Community rules are the guiding directive in these matters and often a thread closure is because it has taken a turn in opposition of our Community rules. Sometimes closure is chosen rather than the more draconian, removal of a topic entirely. If there is beer or buck butts involved and then, well... all bets are off
