Lots more LED's.
Oh, and a folding prop that won't shake out my teeth when I have to motor!

On the cheap side, some sail tape. On the expensive, to fix my sails the right way!

Santa, all I want for Christmas is a binnacle rack for my 7x50 binoculars.

-A high-quality folding knife with a fid built in (Myerchin makes a nice one)
-Good flashlight, LED preferrably (Streamlight is a good make)
-a hand-held depth-finder $100 at West Marine. Great for finding suitable passes in shallow water, sorting out an anchorage to see if you can swing without hitting, helping others to tie up at shallow docks, etc...all scenarios a cruiser will see eventually.
-an electronic barometer/ weather station. Oregon Scientific does a nice one...

My vote, go for the knife. Can never have too many on board.

John

Now THAT's funny!

Thanks for that. Laughing -- especially when unexpected -- feels great.

We're going to be getting into the icy season very soon around here. How about a block heater for the outboard?
Everyone always needs more gear for their boat. But of course, boaters can be a picky lot. Most seem to prefer picking out their own gear- after all, part of the fun of it all is poring over the catalogues and spec sheets into the wee hours of a frigid January morning, trying to figure out which of twelve roller furlers is really going to be the better one....
The big thing on my list right now, of course, is a bit of covered shop space in which to start building the next boat. (And by 'a bit of covered shop space', of course, I really mean 'a few hundred square metres of heated, ventilated boatbuilding paradise right on the canal' )
