@ Alaska JD,

This is Astrid's choice of plane ownership, different color scheme.

Re: What Do You Do for a Living?

NICE!!! There is no flying more flat out fun than flying on floats. Good job Astrid. In my 20s I had a 1946 Aeronca Cheif on floats. No electrical system so you had to prop it from the right float. It was a bear to start, but unlimited joy to fly

Isn't that the world's largest at 16 miles/26km?

Re: What Do You Do for a Living?

Deck Officer,
Is that a Cub on floats? Can it go forward against more than 25Kts of breeze?
I drive Busses, French (well mostly) ones. It allows me to travel to places to buy spares for the boat.
By the way, is the lower rudder on that thing for an extreme aft C of G situation?

Re: What Do You Do for a Living?

That's actually an Aviat Husky, and very similar to the Piper Cub. They are available with the 180hp Lycoming as standard in most, but with an option for the larger 200hp. The plane is closely related to the Piper Super Cub, much modernized of course.

Astrid - Nice. I used to fly the Cub - variable noise, constant speed - moving cattle around. The extra grunt would have been most welcome.

The dorsal fin under the tail is intended to restore some of the postive yaw stability after the addition of the floats. Other installations use two smaller vertical fins on the horizontal stabilizers.
