what did I find?

I found this buoy washed up on the beach near Rock Sound, Bahamas. The round sphere is about 14" dia and the projection is about 18 inches with a somewhat soft conical point at the end.
Anyone know what this was for?

Re: what did I find?

I truly hope it’s not a vintage bomb! Fair winds.

Re: what did I find?

I wouldn’t go near this thing. The bottom round part really does look like a mine.

definitely don’t press the soft conical point.

Sketchy

Re: what did I find?

I ran the image through Google image search. It didn’t find anything I considered even close.

Re: what did I find?

Seriously people? A mine??? Because its ROUND????

Let's just pump up the drama (as if some of us don't have enough already!) with absolutely NO idea what we are talking about. How many mines have been placed in Bahamas waters this year? Does this thing look like it has been floating in the ocean for years?

Geeeeezzzzz.

Re: what did I find?

I am not an expert by any measure, but a mine would be pretty far down on my list of guesses. It seems very small unless the intent is to blow up a very small boat. A quick google search shows that live mines do find their way to shore, and are much larger.

My first guess would be some kind of fishing gear. What exactly I don't know, but there is a ton of fishing gear floating around, and much of it has a black sphere.

Re: what did I find?

My guess would be a fence/guardrail post that was set in concrete at one time.

Re: what did I find?

My guess is a the floating bits of a float valve assembly. Pointy bit down, ball floating, whole thing constrained by a tube-ish guide. Soft conical bit plugs a valve seat when water (or whatever it's floating in) level is low.. Water rises, ball floats, which lifts the cone out of the seat so water can flow down the hole. Metal bar with holes allows adjustment of length between ball and plug to set different water levels

Re: what did I find?

I like the mine fantasy, there's still plenty of ordnance on the ocean floor from various conflicts.
Cheers

Here’s a screenshot regarding a couple in OZ back in 2016[ATTACH but I don’t think the OP found a mine.
