Hey Henry,

I'm sorry but that version by the Herd which verges on being rap (which I like by the way) really does no justice at all to a classic Aussie song by Redgum.

Here is the REAL version....which is a classic tribute to all our young sioldiers and all young soldiers worldwide who have given their lives (well those on our side anyway)

I'm a metalhead from way back, with just about everything Metallica has ever done on my iPod, with several Megadeth albums right next to them.

But I really have eclectic listening tastes and will listen to many types of music (except rap - yecch. And not a fan of zydeco either).

Recently I've become obsessed with a wonderful and talented young singer/songwriter named Brandi Carlile.

I would describe her as a blend of modern folk and country. Mostly acoustic. She has a great voice, which sounds sort of like old Bonnie Rait, maybe a little K. D. Lang or Melissa Etheridge, but better, as far as I'm concerned. Some of her stuff reminds me in a certain way of old Johnny Cash.

You can check her out by searching for her name on YouTube. My favorites are "Dreams", "The Story", "That Year", "Before it Breaks" and "Have You Ever".

For the past several months, I've also been bit hard by old Rat Pack stuff - Frank, Dino, Sammy, as well as Tony Bennett - those guys really could sing!

I don't have a means of listening to music on my sailboat, but my wife found an interesting-looking portable iPod docking station the other day that I might buy for that purpose - but it's $200...

OZ, I dig that version just as much...

Rust, forget the ipod brother and go a Sony PSP! Eats it... The only apple worth getting are the ones that stop scurvey!

Richard (NOT Eric) Clapton

Hi guys,

If you would like some real easy listening sailing music I highly recommend Richard Clapton.

He is an Aussie artist who has been around since the seventies and is very well known in Oz but is not well known overseas and is a very underated artist who really did not get the recognition that he deserved.

Here are a couple of samples of his work :-

I have no idea what these guys are singing about but they are tight and musically spot on, I would be chuffed to be playing with musicians of this calibre. World music? I think so...
