I'll go ahead and defend that as a general survival technique. When one is in trouble and not sure what to do, it can be of great help to just stop for a few minutes, have a snack, do something simple and routine, to help avoid panic and let some ideas come into focus.

Re: Weirdest sailing movie/scene ever?!

All is Lost, two scenes stood out in particular for me.

First when he hit that container and was somehow unable to get away from it. Throws in a sea anchor off of the container and after having tight off onto the container the line magically becomes taut and container is pulled away. That was super silly.

Second one was when the yacht rolled 360 degrees. Was half full with water at that stage and obviously they rolled the camera and not the boat so the half full of water bit also rolled 360 degrees. Was horrible to see. Embarrassing to watch.

Opening scene of the movie Mamma Mia starring Meryl Streep.

Our star is making excellent speed while standing up and holding the tiller of a large dinghy.

However, there is no sail, no mast and no engine.

Hollywood magic.
