things you find yourself needing when you make landfall

I'm trying to compile a list of things that people folks need when you stop into some random town. I'm sure there are some things I'm missing:

Where's the ...

- fuel?
- good place to grab breakfast/lunch/dinner?
- good/cheap bar?
- bus stop?
- closest provisions?
- fresh water?
- chandlery?
- doctor?
- dentist?
- pharmacy?
- laundry?

Re: things you find yourself needing when you make landfall

You're going out into the less populated Pacific. You can usually get fresh water. You will be able to walk to where you can get fuel some places; others, diesel is only available when the ship comes in with it. Tinned provisions and powdered milk, no worries; fresh veggies usually involve excursions. In Atuona, if that's where you make landfall, there was a fresh veg co-op, and often you could ride in the back of a pickup to get there--no benches or belts.

Make all the lists you want, but when you need something, it will be the single thing not available in that place.

It is some type of law, I think.

Besides the things already listed, fresh produce sure tastes good after a long passage. And don't forget some other yotties with whom to tell lies about the passage!

Where to obtain local currency.

Banks, ATMs, George the money-swapper... Whatever works

Re: things you find yourself needing when you make landfall

When you make landfall in Atuona, and you are going into the town, be sure to take 4 spoons in your backpacks. Then, you can buy a 1/2 gallon of ice cream for the family--or share with someone who also at least brought their spoon. YES!!!
